Image usage rights
Images in the Image Bank may be used by anyone who wants to tell the story of Finland to a foreign audience. This includes international media. In addition, the images may be used to illustrate messages intended for a Finnish audience when the purpose is to present country branding work or communicate about research, strategy or some other activity concerning Finland’s country image.
It is not permitted to make products out of the images or to use them primarily for commercial purposes.
The users of the Image Bank have the right make minor edits or alterations to the images in the extent necessary for usage complying with this agreement (e.g. the right to crop images, the right to use colour filters, the right to add text on top of the image) and the right to convert the image files to another file format. It is not permitted to edit or manipulate the content of the images.
The copyright information provided in the Image Bank must be included when using the images.
Images of the Image Bank may only be used in accordance with law and other regulations and good practice. Images may not be modified or used in ways that are offensive to the subjects of the images. If misuse of images is suspected, the Administrator has the right to prohibit the use of images and remove the user’s access rights to the Image Bank.
Examples of permitted and prohibited uses of images in the Image Bank:
- Entities representing Finland that are engaged in country branding (regional and national entities engaged in tourism and export promotion and entities carrying out country branding):
PERMITTED:
- Social media post about Finland.
- Website illustrations when the content of the site complies with the terms of use of the Image Bank (e.g. finland.fi, um.fi, workinfinland.fi).
- Printed products, presentations, videos, and other products created by entities above for the purpose of presenting Finland.
- Messages about country branding intended for a Finnish audience.
- Invitations or advertisements for events organised by entities above.
- Other country image advertisements created by entities above.
NOT PERMITTED:
- Messages by entities above when intended for a Finnish audience and unrelated to country branding.
- Other non-profit entities (e.g. organisations, educational institutions, students):
PERMITTED:
- Educational or other material about Finland for other than commercial purposes.
- Presentations, projects for school.
NOT PERMITTED:
- Social media posts, newsletters or event invitations by educational institutions that do not comply with the usage described in the Image Bank’s terms of use.
- Marketing material about education programmes.
- Annual reports.
- Media (Finnish and foreign media)
PERMITTED:
- Articles on Finland intended for a foreign audience.
- Articles about Finland’s country branding intended for a Finnish audience.
NOT PERMITTED:
- Advertisements.
- Content intended for a Finnish audience when usage does not comply with the Image Bank’s terms of use.
- Enterprises (excl. enterprises representing Finland)
PERMITTED:
- Material intended for a limited foreign audience which are used in accordance with the Image Bank terms of use and which will not be openly available (e.g. presentations used on trade missions).
- Social media posts or customer magazine articles when
- they comply with the Image Bank terms of use;
- they do not include marketing communication by the company; and
- they do not include identifiable human faces.
NOT PERMITTED:
- Textbooks and other products intended for commercial publications.
- Advertisements or other uses associated with a company’s marketing communications.
